Project 7/ Conservation Awareness and Biodiversity Education Program /2010

Trip to Samarakan

Venue:

Samarakan, Sarawak Planted Forest

Objective: to promote conservation of flora and fauna in Bintulu and promote a better understanding of biodiversity in Bintulu

Brief Report:

CABEP 2010 was jointly organised by Natural Science Society Bintulu, Rotary Club of Bintulu and Sarawak Planted Forest Sdn Bhd. 11 interactors with 2 teachers participated in this program.

Lectures about conservation in Sarawak Planted Forest Project, wildlife conservation, water conservation and Sarawak Forestry role and regulation were given to the interactors. At 7.30 pm, we started to go into the forest and searched for the creatures in the forest. We saw spiders, frogs, snails, birds, rare ferns and etc. At 7 o’clock in the next morning, we used the binoculars and walked around a large lake to observe birds and tried to identify them. After breakfast, we also carried on Odonata inventory and tried to identify them. We learned to differentiate the dragonflies from damselflies and also female from male. The interactors were divided into 3 groups and each group had different things to share on their experience throughout this adventure.

Project 6 / Attending Talk of LAKU Bintulu / 2010

Objective: to gain the knowledge of interactors about the importance of water and the process of water treatment.

Brief Report:

Twelve interactors accompanied with three teacher advisors attended the talk organised by LAKU Bintulu. The manager of LAKU Bintulu, Mr. Chan briefed on the importance of water while the production maganer gave us a talk about the water treatment. Interactors took notes and asked questions during the talk.
